1. ) SUCCESS STORIES FROM THE COUNSELORS OFFICE
This one’s good. Several weeks ago I received a phone call from an eager weight loss seeker. Another client of mine, who is down 40 pounds so far, referred her. After the first session, she returned the following week for session #2. When I asked her how she was doing, she told me that at first she didn’t feel any different but later realized just how powerful this stuff is. She spoke to her friend about it, the one who has lost 40 pounds, and he said to her, “Kathy, haven’t you been on the treadmill every day this week? When was the last time you used your treadmill?” That is when it clicked for her. She hadn’t used her treadmill in over 6 months and was suddenly so motivated that she used it 6 days in a row, and she didn’t even realize the magnitude of this because it was normalized subconsciously. Further more, what she eats and the quantities she eats were considerably less. That’s the interesting thing about the mind; once it is re-programmed, the new behaviors just seem, well, normal.
2. BOOK NEWS
I spoke to Tricia Cunningham, author of the new book, The Reverse Diet (Wiley) and she will be writing an endorsement for the back cover of my book. Her book is presently flying off the shelves. I also spoke to my PR person. The book and all of the press material is being sent out for review at the end of this month. I’ll keep you posted. You can pre-order it now on Amazon.com and Barnes & Noble.com.
Start spreading the word. It helps a lot.

4. ARTICLE: Weight Loss: It’s all in your head
Would you tie a blindfold around your eyes and take a stroll across a major intersection during rush hour? I didn’t think so, that would be dangerous to your health. Would you enter a lion’s den and play chase just for kicks? I doubt it, that wouldn’t be good for your health either. Although you would never put yourself in one of these predicaments, would you believe me if I told you that you put your health in danger practically every day? Think about it. Don’t you consume foods and beverages that you know are harmful to your health?
Every day we roll the dice. We play chicken with our health. We know we shouldn’t eat monstrous roast beef sandwiches smothered with mayonnaise but we do it. We know that the bowl of past primavera we ate the night before was enough to feed 3 people but we eat the whole thing anyway. And we know that munching-down an entire bag of chips isn’t going to help us lose weight—but we still do it. We aren’t stupid folks. So I guess the question is: Why do we keep doing what we know we shouldn’t do, what we know is downright dangerous to our health?
By the time weight-loss seekers make their way through my door, they’ve usually reached the end of their rope. They’ve tried every diet out there and most of them have lost weight, but just about all of them gained it back, and in many cases gained even more. They come to me because they are desperate, and they wait until they get to that point because the method I use to help them lose weight is unorthodox; it’s not about dieting. I teach people how to power program their mind. You’re probably saying to yourself, “what on earth is power programming?” Let’s just say—it’s all in your head.
We here “mind” sayings all the time like “Oh it’s just in your head” or “it’s totally mental.” You know what I’m talking about, but do you know what these expressions actually mean? Probably not because if you did you wouldn’t have a problem with your weight. Let me explain. Your mind is the most powerful computer on earth but you only know how to use a small amount of its applications. Let’s look at just two of these applications, your conscious mind and subconscious mind. These are the only ones you’ll need to understand in order to lose weight the mental way. Believe it or not my friend, right now as you are reading this article you are in a trance. We go into trances everyday, and they are nothing more than when your mind slips into a subconscious state as opposed to the typical conscious state. There are a bunch of things going on around you right at this very moment that you are consciously detached from. That’s what happens when you’re in a trance, your conscious mind loses its grip and your subconscious becomes the dominant mental state.
Anytime you’re reading, watching television or driving, for example, the switch to your subconscious is turned on. And here’s the important part: your subconscious is much more powerful than your conscious mind and when you learn how to use it and harness its strengths, which is actually very easy to do, then you’ll understand the meaning of“it’s all in your head.” Then you’ll be able to lose weight easily.
Now, let’s talk a little bit about your conscious mind. Your conscious mind is the part that you use to problem-solve, but it is not very good at problem solving because it is overly critical, which is quite the contrary to the subconscious. Here’s an example. Let’s say you’ve set your alarm clock to go off early because your new-years resolution is to begin exercising. The moment that alarm goes off, your conscious mind starts to say, “oh no, you are so comfortable and cozy and warm, just hit snooze.” Before you know it, you’ve hit the snooze button five times and repeat this pattern day after day. Suddenly your new-years resolution is going to have to wait until next year. As you can see, the conscious mind isn’t all that good at problem solving, but your subconscious is, and here’s how.
Before we get to that let’s go back to all of those bad food choices you’ve been making even though you are fully aware that you shouldn’t be making them. Like the alarm clock situation, you’ve probably told yourself a million times that you are not going to have that bowl of Ben and Jerry’s, that you are not going to clean-out your co-workers candy jar and that you are not going to keep eating everything on your plate. Even though you tell yourselves these things, you keep breaking your personal promises. You keep failing. That’s because you are consciously trying to succeed, and remember, the conscious mind is not very good at problem solving. What you need to do is to tap into your power center, your subconscious mind. That is where all of your cravings and compulsions come from and your conscious mind doesn’t have access to this area, and it never will.
Here’s how it works. Over the years, your subconscious has been programmed to eat, eat, eat. It has been programmed to make you want everything instantaneously. How? Well first of all, the food industry spends $3 billion a year to enter it. It’s called advertising and much of it is done subliminally, meaning that the messages bypass your conscious mind and go directly to your subconscious. Hence, you have relentless cravings and compulsions. Secondly, we live in a generation that promotes simplicity. We can buy clothes and merchandise with the click of a mouse. We can purchase robots to take care of the vacuuming. We can by GPS systems for our car so that we don’t have to actually, well think, and find our way to our destination. You get the picture, everything is about speed and simplicity, and your mind gets very used to this. Think about how accessible food is. You can pick-something up for dinner in a jiffy. Your mind quickly gets used to instant gratification. That’s also why it seems so darn hard to get on a treadmill for 30 minutes? Makes sense doesn’t it?
Let’s get back to how your subconscious can help you break through all of this stuff so that you can lose weight. The power programming techniques are simple. They are nothing more than a way for you to intentionally bring yourself to that trance-like, subconscious state of mind and to start taking advantage of its strength. Once you’re there, your subconscious will digest just about anything you tell it because it is uncritical. For example, if you create an image of yourself easily avoiding the ice-cream cake at your child’s birthday party, your subconscious is going to respond to this. You will literally find yourself in these kinds of situations feeling totally in control without struggle or effort. You can create just about any images or suggestions you want to and doing so will literally re-program your mind. Soon your self-control will significantly outweigh your cravings. So just how can you begin doing this power-programming stuff? Well I’ve made it easy for you. When my book, Losing Weight When Diets Fail, is released in April, you’ll learn exactly how. Hold your horses for a couple of months folks.
