1. SUCCESS STORIES FROM THE COUNSELOR’S OFFICE
(To protect confidentiality, the name used in the following example is not real)
Well, things are still going well with my client. I’ve got a bunch of stories to share but this one sticks out the most in my mind. I’ll try to put this in a nutshell. I have this woman that I’ve been working with. She’s probably reading this article right now, but don’t worry no one will know it’s you.
Anyway, her eating had been a bit out of control, cookies galore, a half bag of chips, cheesecake, large portions, the works. Since she has come for her power programming sessions, all of that has changed completely. The junk food eating and large portions are simply gone, kaput. She’s doing great and the reason is clear. She lacked confidence. Now she has it. She is really starting to believe in herself and the change is apparent. But there’s still more to do. Our next step is to focus on helping her trigger the motivation to exercise. She’s been unconsciously resistant to this but I think we’re breaking through the resistance.
2. BOOK NEWS
Some awesome things going on here. The book is in print and will be released on April 25th. My publicist is working feverishly behind the scenes and it will all come together in the next coming weeks.
3. FEATURE ARTICLE
The Secret
Several months ago I got an email from a woman who subscribes to this newsletter. She told me that she would be attending one of my upcoming speaking engagements. I met her right after I finished my speech and she reached her hand out, looked me straight in the eyes and said, “You’re going to be on Oprah.” Sheepishly, I responded, “yeah, imagine that.” She responded, “No, you’re supposed to say, ‘yes I am going to be on Oprah.”
We talked for a little while after that and she mentioned something called “The Secret”. She carried-on for a little while about it and told me that I already knew “The Secret” because I lived it. This “Secret” is about the power of thought and the law of attraction.
Several weeks later I received an email from her inviting me to speak at an obesity task force meeting in NJ. In the email she mentioned “the secret” again. This time I googled it, found the website and decided to buy the DVD. Since watching the DVD, some amazing things have happened. The DVD opened-up my mind and got me thinking about my present place in life and about all of the future goals and aspirations that lay ahead. Basically “the secret” is this: “What you think about, you bring about.”
If you haven’t yet heard about “The Secret” you soon will. “The Secret” is now the number one book on the NY Times best seller list. Like everything else in our world, the skeptics and closed-minded will do all they can to diminish its principles. But regardless, the book has already sold something like 3 million copies and the DVD another 2 million.
I just finished reading the book and watching the DVD and am not only amazed by the principles but am amazed because I have been living them my whole life and didn’t really know it. Let me explain. The secret is based on the law of attraction. Basically, your thoughts control your destiny. If you are constantly thinking about the debt you have, poor relationships, poor health and so forth, you are holding these images in your thoughts and you are actually attracting more of this stuff into your life, more of what you do not want. Like attracts like. If you’re always thinking passionately about what you do want, on the other hand, you will attract more of those things. It’s that simple. “What you think about you bring about.”
Look at “The Secret” like this. Take the co-worker who has a chip on his shoulder all the time, hates the world and does nothing but complain. Do you think he thinks encouraging, positive thoughts all the time? Of course not. He thinks about negative things and everything he does not want in life, and this thinking is impacts his feelings, which ultimately lead to his actions and outcomes. The energy he sends out to the world empowers and brings forth more of what he does not want. It feeds the monster of negative thought.
My personal experience with “The Secret” is fascinating. The day after I purchased the DVD, I was flipping through the newspaper and wouldn’t you know it, “The Secret” was number one on the bestseller list and I had only heard about it from the woman I met. That was strange for me but it gets even better. After I watched the DVD, within the course of just one week about 10 random people have said to me, “you’re going to be on Oprah.” And they said it exactly the same way as the woman I mentioned earlier, verbatim. That freaked me out a little bit but it also excited me. Now I don’t just want to be on Oprah, I believe that I will be because that is the image I am seeing in my mind and I’m feeling that image. Remember, “what you think about you bring about.”
This Oprah story gets even better. I got a random email the other day from my publicists assistant. Here’s what it said, “When pitching Oprah – they only respond to “human-interest” type pitches…nothing really topical. Think about how we can turn LWD (Losing Weight When Diets Fail) into something Oprah specific. Take a look at her website…that always helps…especially “be a guest on our show.” I want to make sure we nail this one…we have a wonderfully responsive contact over there but we only usually just one shot to get her to notice you…
The crazy part is, I never mentioned Oprah to the publicist or her assistant nor did they to me. If you look at how her email was written to me, it’s as if she was responding to an email I had sent her, which I never sent. This was an out-of-the-blue email and it came about, I believe, in response to the energy of my thoughts.
One last thing about “the secret.” Just the other night, I received the first completed copy of my book from the publisher, ten of them to be exact. As I held the book, I realized that it came about because 4 years ago I had a vision, a dream, an image—a thought. And I held on to that image and believed in it. Well, the universe has responded to my wishes. Furthermore, as I sat down on my couch and curled up with a good book, my own, the words on the page shot back at me with a great force; it dawned on me that my book, Losing Weight When Diets Fail, follows the same principles as the secret—the power of thought.
