1. ) SUCCESS STORIES FROM THE COUNSELORS OFFICE
A woman I began seeing a last week came in for her second appointment the other day. Her biggest problem was that she just “could not stop eating.” Whenever food was in her presence, (cookies, candy, anything) she ate it and ate lots of it. Her other problem was that she hadn’t exercised in months and wanted to start.
To make a long story short, she has completely stopped binge eating and there is absolutely no struggle at all. In fact, she was at a birthday party the other night and just did not want the cake. There was no struggle. There was no effort. She also reported to me that her portion sizes at meal times have shrunk in half and that the types of foods she eats are of the healthy variety. In just one week, she has made a complete turn around. And most important of all, there is no effort or struggle. That’s the power of the mind. Oh! She started exercising too.
2. BOOK NEWS
My book, LOSING WEIGHT WHEN DIETS FAIL, is now available in all major bookstores and many independent bookstores across the country. It is available online at amazon.com and barnesandnoble.com.
Next week is the launch of the publicity campaign and I will start-off doing interviews on about a dozen radio shows across the country. A list of the shows and interviews can be found at http://losingweightwhendietsfail.com/page05.html. I cannot thank my publicist team enough.

4. ARTICLE: What Images Are In Your Mind?
I was on a phone conference yesterday with a well-known radio host in Seattle talking about weight loss, eating habits, motivation etc. Some important issues were raised and it dawned on me that I should be writing about the images we hold in our mind. Let me explain.
For those of you who need to lose 20 or 30 pounds but just “can’t” do it, I want you to stop for a moment: I want you to say the following words to yourself: “WEIGHT LOSS”………………… What do you see right now in your mind when you say these two words? Do you see a blubbery you sitting on the couch with a sad look on your face feeling unmotivated and out of control? If that’s not exactly what you are seeing, I’m sure it’s pretty close. Why is this important? Well, how can you expect to get yourself motivated when what you are thinking involves struggle, pity or despair? You can’t.
What you need to do is start changing the images that are represented in your mind. Say those words to yourself (“weight-loss”) again but this time I want you to create a new image. See a person who is vibrant and alive. See yourself with a smile on your face enjoying a nice jog. See yourself eating slowly with complete control. Feel how good you feel about yourself. Keep practicing creating new images like these and see what happens after a couple of days. You are going to start to feel motivated.
Ok, now I want you to say something else to yourself. This time I want you to say, “I NEED TO START EXERCISING.” Now stop……… what image are you seeing this time. I’ll bet it’s an image of yourself lying in your bed thinking about how dreadful the idea of getting up and exercising sounds. If it’s not that image exactly it’s probably close and it’s probably something discouraging rather than encouraging. When the thoughts of exercising are tied to despair and doubt, you’re never going to get yourself motivated. Try this: say to yourself again, “I WANT TO START EXERCISING.” This time change the images in your mind. Imagine yourself feeling full of energy. See yourself enjoying a brisk walk or run and feeling excited about all the benefits. Feel excited about it. That’s right; feel excited.
My point is the associations that we attach to losing weight, dieting and exercising are usually negative and discouraging. You need to change these mental associations, these images. If you practice tying-in new thoughts, ideas and images to your health, you’ll begin to succeed.
5. QUOTE OF THE WEEK
In the province of the mind, what one believes to be true either is true or becomes true.
